Wolf worked his way through his doctorate by as a forklift operator and warehouse worker in the family business, which he would eventually buy with two of his cousins. After selling the Wolf Organization in 2006, Wolf became the secretary of revenue under Ed Rendell. A few years later, the Wolf Organization was on the verge of bankruptcy. Position on Education
"It's just this simple: our state is never going to get stronger as long as we make our schools weaker." -Governor Tom Wolf
Wolf's 2015-2016 budget's investment in education plans to restore the cuts made to public schools, provide property tax relief, expand the Pre-K program, and reinvest in higher learning. While providing property tax relief does not initially seem related to education, it is actually an effect of increasing the state's contributions to the funding of public education. Because less money is needed from homeowners, Wolf is able to bring about an average of a 50% reduction in property taxes. In addition to increasing the pre-k-12 budget by $2 billion and working to achieve a goal of universal pre-k for all children, Wolf is calling for "fair accountability measures to ensure results." He is also budgeting for an extra $140.9 million to restore cuts made to community colleges, state colleges and universities, and state-related universities.
